About Vaniqa
Vaniqa slows down enzymes that encourage hair growth, resulting
in slower growth of hair in areas where it is applied. If
the medication should cause skin irritation, use it less frequently,
and if it continues you should contact your doctor. If there
is no improvement after six months, or your condition gets
worse, stop treatment and contact your doctor.
Vaniqa is only available by prescription. Vaniqa Side Effects
Vaniqa side effects are not usually serious, and generally go away
over time as the body becomes used to the medication. However,
if any of the following side effects are severe or persist,
speak to your doctor about them. Shield irritated skin from
excessive sunlight.
Common Side Effects: Acne, stinging sensation.
Less Common Side Effects: Bleeding skin,
burning sensation, chapped lips, continuing acne, hair bumps,
numbness, rash, red skin, swollen lips, tingling sensation.
Cautions: Vaniqa may not be suitable for all individuals.
If you have any history of the following conditions, speak
to your doctor to ensure that your treatment is as safe and
effective as possible.
- Allergy: Any allergic reaction to a medication
indicates that treatment should stop immediately. If you
have had an allergic reaction to Vaniqa in the past, you
should not take it again.
Vaniqa Interactions
- Topical skin medication - Do not use Vaniqa with other
prescription or non-prescription topical treatments that
will be applied to the same area unless you consult with
your doctor.
Vaniqa Dosages
Individuals over the age of 12 should apply a light coating of
cream to problem areas twice a day, at least 8 hours apart.
Do not wash or wet the area for at least 4 hours.
Read the patient instruction sheet that
comes with your medication carefully, and take note of any
special instructions given by your doctor. Vaniqa Directions
When using this medication, do not allow it to come in contact
with the eyes, nose, or mouth. If this occurs, rinse thoroughly
and contact your doctor or other health care professional
for advice and instruction. Continue normal hair removal procedures
during treatment. Wait at least 5 minutes after removing hair
before applying cream, and wait until the cream dries before
applying makeup or sunscreen. Do not wash or wet the area
for at least 4 hours after application.

Store Vaniqa away from direct light and heat. Store at room
temperature, and do not allow the medication to freeze. Do
not use after the expiration date.
Keep Vaniqa away from children; both when storing it, and when discarding any unused medication.
Vaniqa and Pregnancy
The effects of this medication on pregnant women and nursing children is unknown. Internal consumption of eflornithine can cause birth defects. Speak with your doctor if you are, or plan to become pregnant.
Vaniqa and Children
This treatment has not been tested in children under 12, but is not expected to cause different reactions in individuals over the age of 12 than it does in adults.
Vaniqa and Seniors
This medication does not appear to cause any different reactions in seniors.
